For V-belt drives, high ambient temperature is the most common heat source. Some belt drive systems must be operated in a high temperature environment, such as a drive system close to the boiler, a drive system close to a hot engine, or a belt drive system with an enclosed airtight protective cover.


Belt slippage is due to improper maintenance, and severe working conditions can also generate a lot of heat. One of the most common V-belt maintenance problems is that the installation tension is low, which will cause the belt to slip. Other maintenance issues include parallelism, worn pulleys, worn or heavily loaded bearings and debris. The side edge wear of the V-belt is caused by the above problems. 


If the ambient temperature and improper maintenance have been eliminated as a heat source, severe working conditions should be considered. An example of severe operating conditions is that the output load of the motor is higher than the original design of the belt drive system, which causes the belt to slip.
